Summer is a time of freedom and fun for many children—but for families facing food insecurity, it can bring added challenges.
During the school year, millions of children rely on school meal programs for nutritious food. When school is out, families must find ways to replace those meals while managing rising costs for groceries, childcare, and other essentials. For many, summer means stretching already tight budgets even further.
That's why many of CoreGiving's hunger-relief partners expand their programs during the summer months to help bridge this gap. One example is Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, which serves a region where more than 118,000 children face hunger. Through its Hunger Free Summer initiative, the organization helps provide additional meals and support to children and families when school is out of session.
Through Giving at Our Core, CoreGiving proudly supports organizations like Second Harvest, strengthening local efforts that help ensure children and families have access to nutritious food throughout the year.
"Summer can be one of the hardest times for families facing food insecurity," said Nancy Keil, President and CEO, Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee. "Partnerships like CoreGiving's help us provide meals, raise awareness, and inspire broader community support."
Second Harvest is one of many hunger-relief partners working every day to help children and families thrive. By participating in Giving at Our Core, our network can help strengthen these efforts and support trusted organizations responding to local needs with compassion and care.
No child should face summer hunger alone. Together, we can nourish children and families today while building stronger communities for tomorrow.
